The new two-door Accord coupe stands apart from the four-door
sedan in its dimensions, smaller in all but width, which is identical.
The coupe is available in four trim lines, two with a four-cylinder
engine and two with a V6, with a six-speed manual transmission
available for the latter.
Interior and trunk
The coupe is lower than the sedan, making access more difficult. The front seats are very
comfortable, with high seatbacks and good side support. Though some drivers deplore the lack of
lumbar support with the cloth upholstery, all appreciated the tilt/telescoping steering column.
Unfortunately, the right front seatback does not return to its original position after being folded
down to let someone get in the back.
As with all coupes, the rear seat is hard to reach. It provides
comfortable seating for two adults if they are not too tall, headroom
being tight. The rear seatback has a 60/40 split.
The trunk is very roomy but handicapped by its small opening that
won’t accept large objects. The pull tabs that unlock the seatback
sections are too far to reach easily, and can’t be used without
dirtying your clothes on the bumper….
Engine and transmission
The 3.0-litre V6 develops 240 horsepower and 212 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration is lively,
especially when the engine reaches 3,500 rpm. This engine is nice and supple and accelerates
smoothly. It also meets Low Emission Vehicle II standards.
The six-speed manual gear shift is easy to use but unpleasantly noisy, which is surprising in a car
as expensive as this. The transmission is well geared, but clutch pickup is abrupt.
On the road
Honda has gone back to its roots by tuning the suspension for sharper handling on winding
roads. As the coupe is sportier than the sedan, the firm suspension is more acceptable. It can be
harsh on some uneven surfaces, but this harshness is due more to the 50-profile tires than
anything else; otherwise, the ride is firm but comfortable. Road holding is very good on almost
all road surfaces, and the suspension has a good, solid feel.
The power steering is very well tuned, stable, precise and reasonably quick, and even provides a
bit of road feel. The four-wheel disc brakes are very good, in all driving conditions.
An inspection at the CAA-Quebec Inspection Centre showed that the vehicle is very well
assembled and more generously rustproofed than the previous generation.
Conclusion
The Accord coupe combines the civilized comfort of a grand tourer with the handling of a good
sport car. It is a car you can live with every day, unlike Honda’s ultra-sporty S2000. With the V6
and manual transmission, this is a car that fans will enjoy as long as they can adapt to the tricky
clutch.

In 1994, the Honda Accord was moved to a yet larger “CD” chassis, primarily to better suit the requirements of the North American market. It grew in width but oddly shrunk in length, leaving it classified as a mid-size car in North America. It thus became too wide to fit within the favorable tax bracket in Japan, where its role was to be partially taken over by the smaller second-generation Honda Ascot and Honda Rafaga.
DX, LX and EX remained the American trim lines while Canada retained the EX-R. The 5-speed manual remained mostly unchanged; the 4-speed automatic transmission, noted for its hard shifts, now included a “Grade-Logic” shift program. All Accord models received a more ergonomic interior with standard safety features such as dual airbags and reinforced side-impact beams. Exclusive to the EX was a VTEC version of the 2.2-liter 4-cylinder (making 145 hp (108 kW) instead of 130), antilock brakes (now an option for the LX), 15″ alloy wheels (instead of 14″ steel), 4-wheel disc brakes, and a rear stabilizer bar; leather was an EX option. The Accord was named Motor Trend Import Car of the Year. The Accord coupe looked almost exactly like the sedan; this was the last generation of Accord to offer a wagon variant in America…..

The drive pulley supplied in your kit is designed to fit the shorter of the two shafts; there is an optional spacer included in each kit that may need to be used for the longer shafts. This spacer will go between new pulley & nut to ensure proper thread engagement & zero slop on drive pulley for alternator models with longer shaft.

COMPLETE REPORT SECTION 2: Capsule Review Honda Accord EX (Manual) Completely made over for 2003, the Accord coupe shares no sheetmetal with the Accord sedan and presents a distinctly sportier appearance. It’s also sportier on the road, with firmer suspension tuning and a six-speed manual transmission available with V-6 models. The base engine is a 160-hp, 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve aluminum four, with i-VTEC variable valve timing. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, and a five-speed automatic is optional. The upgrade engine is a 3.0-liter SOHC 24-valve aluminum Honda Accord EX (Manual)V-6 making a whopping 240 hp. The front suspension is a control-arm setup, and the rear suspension is a multilink system bolted to a stiff subframe. Changes for 2004 are minimal, with XM satellite radio becoming standard on some EX models and side airbags becoming available as an EX option. And there are two new exterior colors. … 2006 Honda Accord EX V-6 First Place, Mid-Size Four-Door Sedans December 2005 The tweaked-up Accord for 2006 does what Accords always do—charm us with eager responses and superb control on the road. What we didn’t expect was the newly developed muscle, as in muscle car. First, the tweaks. The styling has been freshened with a new grille and bumper in front and a profoundly different look in back as the taillights, instead of spreading onto the decklid, now occupy the upper corners of the rear fenders, much as they do on Accord coupes. The center stoplight is carved most tidily into the top edge of the decklid. When the brakes are on, the Accord’s tail glows red with LEDs, the latest fashion in rear lighting. As face lifts go, this one is a resounding success. Daylight running lights are now standard equipment, as is a stability-control system on V-6 models. Honda claims a mild 4-hp increase in engine output, to 244 at 6250 rpm. We’ve never thought the Accord was underpowered; Honda apparently thought otherwise. The 2006 Accord ripped through the acceleration test to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, a tie with the Sonata, then strongly broke to the front to clear the quarter-mile in 15.1 seconds at 95 mph. For the record, the old Accord needed 7.0 seconds to hit 60 and was 3 mph slower in the quarter. In other categories of athletics, the Accord was always in the top half of the class—second best in stopping distance, tied for second best with the Hyundai in roadholding—and was the top performer in the emergency-lane-change test.
